Mr and Mrs Hamilton, here is the well we assigned your funds to!
The purpose of this project is to provide water for the community of Los Diaz in Diriamba, Carazo. Los Diaz is a rural community with extreme poverty according to the map of extreme poverty of Nicaragua. The main economic activity of this community is agriculture. It has a population of 250 families which translates into 1,250 inhabitants. The most common health issues are gastrointestinal infections, Flu and chronic diseases. About 80% of the population has access to latrines. The members of the community have to walk between 1 km and 3km to get to the closest water source, which is a hand dug well that is almost dried up, and to get to the closest safe water source they have to walk 10 kilometers. By drilling an artesian water well in this community, we seek to help improve the health of the people and raise their living standards by getting clean and safe water.
Furthermore, this well was placed at a thriving church in the community. They provide a feeding program to the children of the area. They have already seen growth in attendance and are excited for the future as they expand their outreach in the community. They know that we were an answer to prayer and God will use this well for great things. While this well was placed at a church, the community members are not required to be members, attenders or believers. It is open to everyone. It is located here geographically targeted on a high point, because of the feeding program and because of the oversight it will receive for sustainability.
Below are some photos from the dedication event. The man in the dark shirt is the pastor. The man in the light blue shirt is the mayor who we work with on projects in the area.
Thank you again!!! Please feel free to share and we hope to have your future support!
